How to become a Bus Driver
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Please Note: This process takes most people 2-4 weeks to complete.

Step 1: Apply through your local school district or school bus company. ● Initiate an FBI fingerprinting process and background check through your prospective employer.

Step 2: Pass a drug and alcohol screening test . Get a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). ● Must pass a DMV CDL Class B written test. ● Must pass a DMV CDL Class B passenger endorsement written test. ● Must pass DMV CDL Class B school bus passenger endorsement test. ● Must pass DMV CDL Air Brake restriction test.

Step 3: Pass a Department of Transportation physical Medical Examiner’s office. at a local

Step 4: Complete 15 hours of ODE’s Behind the Wheel Training.

Step 5: Apply for certification and/or licensure. ● Pass a skills test through the DMV or a Third Party Examiner. ● Pass an Oregon Department of Education driving and criminal record check as part of the School Bus Driver Certificate application submitted by the employer.

Now you are qualified for a School Bus Driver Certificate!
